The Weekly Word: A Righteous Reorientation

The weekly verse

“Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭12‬:‭2‬ ‭(BSB‬‬)

the weekly question

“What’s your motive?”

One day, everything we’ve ever done in this life is going to be weighed. We can operate in the fullness of every God-given gift that’s available, but if we don’t have love, our works will net us nothing. The motivation of our heart truly matters to God, because ultimately, it reveals where we stand in relationship with Jesus.

“If I had the gift of prophecy, and if I understood all of God’s secret plans and possessed all knowledge, and if I had such faith that I could move mountains, but didn’t love others, I would be nothing. If I gave everything I have to the poor and even sacrificed my body, I could boast about it; but if I didn’t love others, I would have gained nothing.”

1 Corinthians 13:2-3 (NLT)

the weekly Consideration

The Apostle John experienced incredible revelations of Jesus & His heavenly glory, both on the Mount of Transfiguration & the island of Patmos. Be it the mountaintop or a place of isolation, the powerful Presence of Jesus was the constancy in each situation. Thus, providing us with tangible illustrations of God’s promise to “draw near to those who draw near to Him” (James 4:8). Regardless of where you may be or what situation you find yourself in, Jesus is calling you to come closer to Him.

“…He made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and He determined their appointed times and the boundaries of their lands. God intended that they would seek Him and perhaps reach out for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us. ‘For in Him we live and move and have our being…”

Acts 17:26-28 (BSB)

the weekly challenge

“Trust”

When it comes to God’s plan for our life, our trust in Him is foundational. The Bible makes it clear that “His ways & thoughts are higher than ours” (Isaiah 55:8), and “Christ’s wisdom appears as foolishness to a perishing world” (1 Corinthians 1:18). In other words, God won’t always lead us in ways that make complete sense to our natural mind. But when we choose to follow Him in authentic faith, we anchor ourselves to His promise & His plan.

“Even when there was no reason for hope, Abraham kept hoping—believing that he would become the father of many nations. For God had said to him, “That’s how many descendants you will have!”…And because of Abraham’s faith, God counted him as righteous.

And when God counted him as righteous, it wasn’t just for Abraham’s benefit. It was recorded for our benefit, too, assuring us that God will also count us as righteous if we believe in him, the one who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead.”

Romans 4:18, 22-25 (NLT)

We all experience moments in which there’s seemingly “no reason for hope”, and we find ourselves pushed beyond our own limited perspective & control. However, in all moments (especially these) we cling to the living reality of Jesus’ resurrection.

We remind ourselves that we are saved & set apart by His righteous blood. We seek Jesus for His daily reassurance, provision, and direction. We reorient our life by remembering that it’s not about “our” ability to make it through. But rather, it’s Christ who is at the center of this story, and He has promised to lead us through.
