The Weekly Word: Settle Your Soul

The weekly verse

“Do not fear [anything], for I am with you; Do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, be assured I will help you; I will certainly take hold of you with My righteous right hand [a hand of justice, of power, of victory, of salvation].’”

‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭41‬:‭10‬ ‭(AMP‬‬)

the weekly question

How is the soil of your heart?

In Mark Ch. 4, Jesus uses a parable involving 4 types of soil in order to illustrate the heart conditions of people. Three of which are incapable of holding onto the seed of God’s Word. They’re too hard, too shallow, or their surroundings choke out the seed which was sown. Thus, we begin to understand how critically important it is to have the right soil.

In this parable, we also come to understand that God sees everything. The Lord sees every weed, thorn, and problem that exists in the ground of our heart. He sees things you may be aware of, and that which lurks beneath the surface. The great complexity of “getting the soil right” becomes apparent, which should prompt us to give His Spirit permission to prepare our heart.

If a single picture is worth a thousand words, how much greater is the yield of a single Word of God planted deeply in the heart of His people? Give His Spirit permission to do whatever work needs to be done in your heart. Be assured in the power of His preparation, and honor Jesus with your part. Be assured that every seed He sows is good, and that as His Word takes root, The Kingdom of God will continuously be revealed in & through your life.

“For as the earth brings forth its sprouts, and as a garden causes what is sown in it to spring up, so the Lord God will [most certainly] cause righteousness and justice and praise to spring up before all the nations [through the power of His word].”

Isaiah 61:11 (AMP)

the weekly Consideration

“For my people have done two evil things: They have abandoned me— the fountain of living water. And they have dug for themselves cracked cisterns that can hold no water at all!”

Jeremiah 2:13 (NLT)

Anytime we turn to our own devices and try to fill ourselves with something other than God, we live fractured & spiritually dry. But when our thirst leads us to Jesus, we experience the continual fountain of God’s blessing in our life.

the weekly challenge

Settle Your Soul

Too often in life, we get lured into playing “the weatherman”. Before the day even begins, we wake up with a pit in our stomach that suggests a natural disaster is on the horizon. Just as the weatherman uses radar systems & different measurements for creating a forecast, we use predictive tools of our own. Bad experiences from the day before, anxiety about unresolved concerns, and any number of things—all of these contribute to an outlook that simply doesn’t look good.

To make matters worse, we can be quick to point to a track record that reveals how many times our grim forecasts have turned out to be true. But as the old saying goes, “even a broke clock is right twice a day.” Like any compelling temptation, there will always be enough truth mixed in to make you question where you should put your focus. But God’s Word delivers a humbling reminder of how futile our forecasting really is:

“All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God now knows me completely.”

1 Corinthians 13:12

In others words, we’re building our case based on “partial and incomplete” pieces of God’s much larger story. But the good news is, we can repent from any misguided perception we may have. By faith, we can rebuke the seeds of doubt from the enemy, and encourage our downcast souls (Psalms 42:5). By faith, we can recognize that we don’t need a complete understanding in order to trust God completely.

Our God is the One who was (past), who is (present), and is to come (future). The Alpha & Omega, the beginning & the end. Jesus is the beginning of a faith-filled future, and He is the ending of faulty forecasting. Above all, “He is with you always, even to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:20).
